NOON

The Riviera Elite Standard

From the Palace of the Popes to the Luberon villages

Nice and Avignon are some two hours and 45 minutes apart by road. The A8 crosses the Var and skirts Aix-en-Provence, then the highway turns north, not far from the Luberon, up to where the Rhône and the Durance meet; Gordes and Bonnieux are about the same distance away. Starting at Nice Airport, in Saint-Tropez, in Cannes, in Nice or in Monaco, your private driver brings you to your hotel in Avignon, a Luberon guesthouse or the TGV station, and the journey back is just as easy to arrange.

  1. From your flight to Avignon

A flight that touches down in Nice in late morning puts you in Avignon by mid-afternoon: the chauffeur, who keeps track of your flight times, meets you as you leave the arrivals hall, and with your bags collected, the drive west begins.

  2. Seven seats for a full house

A country house shared by friends, three generations gathered for the summer: the seven seats of the V-Class are enough for everyone. Even for two, it comes into its own when the bags start to multiply, since the sedan holds just one large suitcase alongside a cabin bag.

  3. The back roads of the Luberon

Gordes, Bonnieux, Roussillon: the Luberon villages are reached by narrow roads winding through vineyards and orchards. Your chauffeur knows them well and times each visit to stay clear of the tour buses.

  4. A house down the lane

Many Luberon homes stand at the end of a country lane: your chauffeur scouts the way in before the day of your trip, then drops you right at the property, suitcases and all.

WHEN TO VISIT AVIGNON

Avignon and the Luberon, season by season

Theater in July, a Luberon village in a single morning, a Cistercian abbey, the estates of Châteauneuf-du-Pape: every outing has its moment.

  1. July

    The Avignon Festival

Founded in 1947 by Jean Vilar and born in the main courtyard of the Palace of the Popes, the Avignon Festival is the leading theater event in France, staged in more than thirty venues. Your chauffeur gets you there before the curtain rises and is waiting again once it falls.

  2. A morning

    Roussillon

Listed among the Plus Beaux Villages de France and tucked inside the Luberon park, Roussillon is best explored in a morning, before the heat sets in. Your chauffeur stays parked below the village until you return.

  3. A full day

    Gordes and Sénanque Abbey

Near the village of Gordes, Sénanque Abbey, founded in 1148, is still home to Cistercian monks. One day covers both the village and the abbey, with lunch on a terrace looking out over the Luberon.

  4. Year-round

    The wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Châteauneuf-du-Pape, just north of Avignon, was among the very first French wines to receive a protected appellation of origin, in 1936. The estates host tastings in every season; you sample, your chauffeur drives.

GOOD TO KNOW

Any questions about Avignon and the Luberon?

Is Avignon a long drive away?

Leaving from Nice, allow roughly two hours and 45 minutes, and slightly more from Monaco; Gordes and Bonnieux take almost exactly as long. Traffic jams never change the price you were quoted.

We are arriving in Avignon by TGV: can you meet us there?

Yes. Opened in 2001 on the LGV Méditerranée, the high-speed line between Paris and Marseille, the Avignon TGV station is one of our pickup points: your chauffeur is waiting as the train arrives, before setting off for the coast or for your house in the Luberon.

Can we visit several Luberon villages in one day?

Yes. Gordes, Roussillon and Bonnieux fit comfortably into a single day, and come evening, you head back without giving the road a thought.

Can we take a taxi to Avignon?

It can be done by taxi. With us, a fixed fare, tolls included, is agreed when you reserve, a brand-new, latest-generation Mercedes-Benz comes to collect you, and your chauffeur, always on time, is dressed in a suit and tie.

PERSONAL ASSISTANCE

Avignon and the Luberon, arranged by Valentin

Valentin Sassi founded Riviera Elite Driver in 2016, after a career in tourism and luxury hospitality on the French Riviera. In the five-star hotels and Palaces of Cannes, he learned what great hospitality demands: attention to detail, discretion and the art of anticipation. These qualities have become his signature.

At first the only one behind the wheel, he earned the trust of hotels, partners and loyal clients, then brought together a team of professional chauffeurs who share his vision of the craft.

Since 2023, he has devoted himself entirely to his clients: he personally organizes every journey and coordinates your chauffeurs.

Day and night, seven days a week, the whole team is just a call away. In the Luberon, your chauffeur knows the little roads that lead to the villages and the guesthouses.

The vehicle matters. The people who look after you matter more.
